FAQs

What services do you offer?

We offer diagnostic assessments, safety assessments and safety planning, treatment planning, crisis counseling, and short-term medication management by appointment only, onsite at our clinic in Wake Forest. Telehealth services are available at the provider's discretion following the initial, in person appointment.

When should I seek services at the Same Day Clinic?

You should seek same day services if you:

  • Are having thoughts about harming yourself or someone else
  • Need medications to address immediate mental health concerns
  • Are in danger of running out of mental health medications before you can attend an appointment with your existing provider
  • Have a child who must complete a safety assessment with a mental health professional before they can return to school or other activities
  • Are experiencing mental health symptoms that are impacting your ability to function today
  • Wonder whether you might need a higher level of care, meaning inpatient hospitalization
  • Otherwise have mental health needs that simply cannot wait
I am new to the area and need to establish care with a new mental health provider. Is the Same Day Clinic right for me?

Cedar Oaks Clinic offers outpatient medication management, therapy, functional training, and recreational therapy. If you have needs that cannot wait, we are happy to see you in our Same Day Clinic then help connect you to ongoing outpatient care, either at Cedar Oaks or elsewhere.

Who should seek services at the Same Day Clinic?

We see patients across the lifespan, from children to older adults. Please note we generally do not prescribe medications to children younger than 13 in the Same Day Clinic, but can refer you to see a pediatric provider if needed.

Do you prescribe controlled substances?

The Same Day Clinic does not prescribe controlled substances. That means we do not prescribe stimulant medications like Adderall or benzodiazepines like Xanax. Cedar Oaks Clinic also has policies about controlled substances.

What is the cost of treatment?

We accept many commercial insurances and several Medicaid and Medicare plans. We also offer cash/self pay rates; see here (link to Cedar Oaks self pay rates). Please check with your insurance provider and with our front desk when scheduling to ensure coverage.

Do I need a referral to be seen?

We do not require referrals. However, if you are coming to us from a doctor's office or other provider, please do ask your provider to complete the referral form available here (link to referral form on Cedar Oaks site; also attached to this email). This information helps us to provide you with the best care. We may need to contact your provider to gather and share information, in which case we'll ask you to sign a release of information.

What should I bring with me?

Please bring photo identification, your insurance card if applicable, any medications you are taking, and information about any existing mental health or medical providers. If you are under the age of 18 or otherwise have a legal guardian, your legal guardian must be with you. If a legal guardian is not present, verbal consent by phone must be given and the guardian must then be able to fax or email over a signed consent form which will be coordinated with our office staff.

My child's school is requiring a safety assessment. Can you help?

Yes. We must see your child in person. Please be prepared to provide contact information for school staff (for example, Principal or social worker) and information about the incident(s) that resulted in the need for a safety assessment.

Do you provide neuropsychiatric testing or assessments mandated by state or local agencies (DSS, DOJ, court system)?

We are not able to provide those types of assessments at the Same Day Clinic.

I think my child may have ADHD or Autism Spectrum Disorder. Can you test for that or diagnose?

We can provide provisional ADHD and Autism testing in order to begin medication management in the main clinic. We will then refer you for Neuropsychological testing to confirm the diagnosis. Neither the Same Day Clinic nor Cedar Oaks outpatient provides psychological testing for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) or Autism Spectrum Disorder. Neither the Same Day Clinic nor Cedar Oaks outpatient provides neuropsychiatric or psychological testing though our providers do offer some types of testing. You may inquire with our front desk staff. Our Cedar Oaks outpatient providers can prescribe certain ADHD medications however we do not prescribe those at the Same Day Clinic.

I'm already a Cedar Oaks Clinic client but I am in crisis or have a need that cannot wait. What should I do?

Please phone the front desk and be prepared to offer a brief explanation of your needs. We will always make every effort to schedule you with your current Cedar Oaks provider. If that's not possible, we will see you at the Same Day Clinic at the next available opening.

Can you prescribe my cholesterol, diabetes, blood pressure etc. medication?

Initial appointments are conducted in person at the Clinic. Follow up appointments may be conducted via telehealth at the therapist or provider's discretion. We are happy to discuss this option with you at your initial, in person appointment.

If I am seen at the Same Day Clinic, do I have to go to Cedar Oaks Clinic for ongoing care?

We want you to get the care you need at a place and time and with a provider that best supports your mental and overall wellness. That may be Cedar Oaks or it may be elsewhere. We will support you in connecting to ongoing care wherever that may be.
